STOCKTON, CA – Faculty and students from the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences gathered today for a quick meal to celebrate the end of the school year and to recognize the academic achievements of several of our majors. Five of our students qualified for membership in Sigma Gamma Epsilon (the National Honor Society for the Earth Sciences) during the 2011-2012 school year. Roger Ward, Kat Rawhouser, Christina Colburn, Brittany Klemm and Dai Wilson were awarded the Jerrold L. McNey Fellowship, which supports initiation fees and membership dues during the first year. The Delbert H. Brown Award was awarded to sophomore Brittany Klemm in recognition of her exceptional promise in the areas of academics, research and service. The department’s highest honor, the John Hadmar Sticht Memorial Medal, which recognizes the outstanding graduating senior in Geology was awarded to Gabby McDaniel. Gabby graduated in December 2011 and is currently very busy in Tanzania volunteering for the United African Alliance Community Center in Arusha and Creative Solutions Community Center in Zanzibar, so we will make sure she gets her award when she returns home!
